What clients have said about Jessica Brodie’s services:

Michael Broome, Ph.D., historian, Washington Street UMC, Columbia, South Carolina, and book production client: We recently finished a book reprinting project at my church in Columbia, South Carolina, and I can only echo the assessments in other testimonials on this website: “Thank God for Jessica Brodie!” After wasted time in fits and starts with this project, we had the good fortune to find Jessica and to follow her leadership and hard work to successful closure. This book is a church history published in 1975 by a scholar and college dean who once served as assistant pastor at our church. For years this work was gifted to new church members and sold locally to those with a penchant for religious study, South Carolina history, and a focus on important leaders within the Methodist denomination. But our Records and History Committee was running out of these books and needed to resupply. We landed on Jessica Brodie to guide us through this task, and the rest, as they say, is history. Jessica’s skill as a media/publishing consultant is beyond compare. She maintains currency in media and publishing operations, is quite knowledgeable with technology, brings a strong journalism background to her consultations, possesses the right connections for this kind of work, and is a personable, articulate, empathetic colleague. She is in the top 5% of folks with whom I’ve worked with respect to reliability and conscientious professionalism. In addition, she is, simply, fun to know. The reprinting project for our church was indeed completed in a timely, effective way. Because of Jessica’s competence, we won’t run out of these important books again. Thanks, Jessica. You do good work.

Neel Woods, first-time novelist, editing and writing coach client: I've been aspiring to write a biblical novel for several years and even got over half of it written, but then I hit a wall. I didn't know what I didn't know about pushing it over the finish line. I had an initial phone chat with Jessica and knew within five minutes that she possessed the missing ingredients I needed for completion. Not only has she offered substantial, detailed direction throughout the journey, but she has also been my constant cheerleader. To call her my writing angel would not be an overstatement.

Lois Kennis, editing and writing coach client: I'd written, edited, and restructured my novel numerous times with the help of writing workshops and critique partners, but I needed to ramp up emotional tension, and I had questions regarding overall structure. Jessica caught on immediately to my needs, and also to my writing voice and style. She understood and liked my characters, and helped me to clearly see things I'd overlooked. Besides addressing the areas where I specifically asked for help, she also noted things I hadn't thought to inquire about. When the manuscript went over my desired word count, Jessica skillfully identified paragraphs and sections not essential to the story that I could shorten or delete to keep the word count within desired guidelines. I'm grateful to Jessica for her keen insight and astute observations that helped strengthen the manuscript.

Linda Summerford, editing client: Jessica Brodie knows how to bring life to your story. She catches things you might have overlooked. Jessica gives great advice on words that can be left out to make your story more conversational. She's always available to answer questions and guide you through the process to publishing. I am so grateful to Jessica for her guidance and encouragement. I highly recommend Jessica to anyone in search of an editor or coach. Thank you, Jessica, for bringing my story to life!

Mark Barnette, editing and writing coach client: I needed an editor, and God sent me an angel! Not only is Jessica great at what she does, but she’s an incredible sounding board, as well. If you’re looking for an editor, look no further.

Hilarie Barry, book editing client: Jessica Brodie is a master editor. My book was finished and ready to download onto Amazon, but I couldn’t do it. Even with all of the people who read through my manuscript, I was afraid we had missed some smaller typos or even something more glaring. Jessica’s meticulous attention to detail gave me confidence. She found those typos, her comments enriched my story, and her questions prompted me to fill in missing pieces in my scenes so my readers would not have to ask those same questions. After reviewing her corrections and comments, I downloaded and published my book. The finished product looks and feels professional. I could not have achieved that same level of completion without her expertise. Jessica, thank you for taking the time to work so carefully on my book.

Cris Howard, book editing client: Writing is such a personal experience. You spend months, even years, writing your story. After spending so much time on a project, you become personally attached, and then finally, it’s done. Finding someone to edit your story, someone who will take your words and make them better, is a huge undertaking. I was overwhelmed looking for an editor until one evening, I was given Jessica’s business card. I took a chance and called her. During our conversation, I felt confident she was exactly what I was looking for, and she didn’t disappoint. She took my story and shaped it into a real book. She was always happy to answer any question, kept me updated, and returned my manuscript before our agreed date. She’s also been there guiding me in the publishing process. I am so grateful for her help and highly recommend her to anyone undertaking this huge task.

Lavinia Cox, writing coach client: I just wanted to say an enormous thank you to Jessica.  I have been writing for years and have had many articles published, but in the last few years, I have moved twice and just felt I had no direction, even though I had two books that stayed on my mind, in my heart, and in my prayers. Through Jessica, I have found my way, and even though the words don’t always come easily, she has been a candle in the storm and a light in the window.  She never pushes too hard, but her encouragement has been beyond helpful.  I know I will be published again—thanks to Jessica.

Lanny M. Turner, M.D., editing client: In May 2020, we lost our son, Travis Turner, to a tragic death. After months of intense grieving, it came to me that I wanted to preserve his legacy in some way. Initially, I considered writing a book just for his daughter’s sake, who was only one year old at the time, so that someday she might better know the wonderful Daddy she lost. It seemed inevitable that she would undoubtedly desire to learn more about him as she grew. But ultimately it was decided, with Jessica’s help, that my story as Travis’s father may be an encouragement to a larger audience. At that point, I was suddenly found myself in “over my head” and in very unfamiliar territory. My primary purpose in writing this story was to give glory to God who has carried my wife and I through this most painful time. Without Him we would likely not have been able to move forward as we have. Therefore, as I began my writing, I also did considerable research on writing coaches, looking especially for those who were Christ-centered, which I felt to be a requirement. The result of my searching yielded one name in particular that stood out above the others, and it was Ms. Jessica Brodie. I can say with complete honesty that she has been a joy to work with from the beginning. Although I have not yet entirely completed my book to honor my son, the experience thus far with Jessica has been delightful. Not only has she been a superb coach for my writing, but she has also been a master encourager during those times when I wondered if I could even do it. She has also been extremely flexible in her approach to fees and payments, even allowing me to make several installments rather than requiring a huge amount up front. I found her scale to be extremely reasonable, and I feel that she offers significant value for the amount one pays. Jessica is a strong Christian woman who has helped many succeed in their first writing attempts, and I would count myself among those who’ve been greatly benefited by her guidance. So if you are searching for a skilled writing coach and a source of ongoing encouragement, I can think of nobody who provides more of both than Jessica. Writing a book is an emotional experience, one which requires regular support from somebody who is as patient and savvy as Jessica. I’m confident that she will not disappoint, and that she will walk every step of your writing journey with you! Therefore, it is without reservation that I can recommend Ms. Jessica Brodie to you as a talented author and coach, as someone who takes personal interest in every client with whom she works!
