Sometimes, just like we can’t get past our embarrassment about lagging grades, we can’t get past the stains of our past. Sins can feel like a bad report card grade, can’t they? Like they’re on your permanent record, blazing bright for all the world to see, like a scarlet letter or a stamp that says “no good,” “worthless,” “shame on you.”

The junk of my past has no place in my future

Some of us (myself included) have a really hard time letting go of the past, whether it’s bad things we’ve done or wrongs that have been done to us. We carry it around with us like luggage, store it out of sight in the back of the closet or atop a high shelf, only to have it come crashing down on us again.
